I got several entries for this recipe listing, but not as many as I had hoped. I guess everyone is as busy this summer as I am. 🙂 I’ve put some really great recipes below. They don’t use the oven and stovetop time is very minimal. Thanks to everyone who submitted! I also put several of mine below so they are all in one place for your convenience. You’ll also notice I put a few of my favorite recipes from other sites too. Enjoy! And if you’d like to have your recipe added, just let me know and I’ll include it. Make sure it’s a “whole foods” type of recipe that doesn’t use processed food. Thanks! [Read more…] |
Canning Peaches – A Tutorial
Okay guys, bear with me…..this is going to be a long post. I wanted to tell you that in advance in case you wanted to get comfortable, get a drink, or pitch a tent. It’s hard to do a canning tutorial without tons of pictures. So, here you go! I wanted to can peaches this year – I first thought about freezing them, but mom changed my mind. Moms have a way of doing that. 🙂 So, we went to our family’s produce market and bought two boxes of peaches. They were so pretty! I enjoyed working with them and smelling them…..and okay, eating them. [Read more…] |
Easy Saran Wrap Alternative: Shower Caps to the Rescue!
We all have them – bowls that don’t have lids. Or maybe they have a lid but your 2 year old hid it somewhere and you can’t find it even though you’ve looked high and low. Or maybe it’s just a weird shaped bowl that a lid wouldn’t work on…..but sometimes you need to cover those bowls anyway. Enter shower caps! Yes, shower caps. They work great on any bowl that doesn’t have a lid. I like covering my bread bowls with them when I have dough rising. It keeps the bugs out….or dust….or flying magnetic letters.I love how handy they are so I always keep a good sized stash around. If one gets dirty, I might wipe it off……or I might just throw it away and get another one. Or, if I do something dumb like stab a knife through it, then I just pitch it and get a new one. They are nice to have in case of a lid emergency. [Read more…] |
Sugar Detox Challenge – Week Two
Well, we made it through week one. It wasn’t bad at all. I find that even after a week, I’m not craving sugar as much as I used to. Also, I’ve not had any sodas for several weeks, so maybe that helps. Research proves that diet soda makes you crave sweets….and I could really knock back the diet soda y’all. BUT, I was nervous to get my next email. I was afraid it was going to be something super drastic and my family would call the looney bin to get me admitted. They have threatened it in the past. Of course week two continues eliminating the High Fructose Corn Syrup, but it also adds that now I should eliminate Corn Syrup as well. Good thing I did that right along with the HFCS. They are different. Who knew? Better safe than sorry. [Read more…] |
Crock Pot Beans and Rice
We really love beans and rice……rice and beans. And it’s not because they’re cheap either. We just really love beans…..and rice. It’s just a nice perk that they’re cheaper than meat. We have beans at least one night per week and sometimes more than that. If you eat here, more than likely you’ll have beans or pasta. Wanna come to dinner? I attempted to set out and create my own beans and rice recipe just for the crock pot……and the result was good. There were a few changes I’ll make next time, but I’ll note those for you. I mess up a lot – so therefore I make lots of recipe notes. It’s how I roll. [Read more…]
Mom’s Salisbury Steak
When I came home from the hospital with Annie, I was hungry. I stayed hungry the entire time I breastfed her. I ate more when I breastfed than when I was pregnant. When my mom asked what I wanted her to bring over to eat, this was the dish I asked for. And I wanted to eat it all……but I shared with Barry. Now, that’s love. This isn’t your normal Salisbury Steak. It’s topped with barbecue sauce and I LOVE it! It makes great fixings for a sandwich too. Yum. I’m hungry. [Read more…] |
Kefir Ice Cream
We love kefir ice cream in this house! I’m always looking for good, nutritional ways to use my kefir. I came across the recipe for kefir ice cream on Tammy’s Recipes website (one of my favorites!) It’s so good that when we run out, I make more. And the combinations are endless! I hope to keep adding kefir recipes for you guys. Check out the smoothie recipe here in case you missed it. I love giving Annie something that is a treat, and yet good for her. The probiotics are great and it’s a good way to get in your calcium for the day. Okay, so who am I fooling? I don’t make this for Annie. I make it for me. There – I confessed. [Read more…] |
Crock Pot Potato Breakfast
Okay, so I know these aren’t much to look at. In fact, they sorta look a little bit scary. Part of that could also be my lacking skills in photography….but buddy, do they taste DELICIOUS! Zenith Clipping is a professional image background removal service provider I trust. They offer the best background removing services. They are a well-reputed top-ranked image editing company serving since 2010.
We gobbled them up…..except for Annie – who had decided that at that particular breakfast she didn’t like cheese or potatoes. Children make no sense. This is a really easy dish to make and I love waking up with breakfast already made.
I try to make dishes like this on mornings when I know we’re going to be super busy. Crock pots were sent directly from heaven. [Read more…]
Clean up After Baby without Paper Towels
Toddlers make a mess when they eat. A big mess. Okay, so if I’m honest I can tell you that I also make a big mess myself. When I was little, mom used to make me eat ice cream in my underwear because I’d get it all over me. Thankfully my family doesn’t make me do that any more. Whew.If I tried to clean up Annie before, during, and after each meal with a paper towel, I might have to buy stock in Bounty. I would go through a HUGE amount of them…..and we really don’t buy many paper towels. When we first started feeding her, I got tired of using paper towels really fast. So, I came up with something better. [Read more…] |
Too Hot To Cook
Man, it’s that time of year where it’s getting to be stinking hot…..too hot to cook. When it’s hot, I just want to take a bath – in a vat of ice cream. In the summertime, we eat a lot of salads and sandwiches. We also fire up the grill and keep the heat outside. There are tons of great dishes that take little-to-no cooking. We usually go through all of them by the time it starts to cool down. It’s harder this year since I’m making all our bread now. However, I’ve switched to a method that I heard from Tammy at Tammy’s Recipes. She says to bake late in the day, after supper. Yes, it’s already hot in the house but by that time it’s usually starting to cool down outside – so when it gets super hot in your house you can open the windows and the house will cool off as it cools off outside. Genius! It’s working great for us. Hope that tip works for you too. [Read more…] |
